The plant originates from Persia and is depicted in ancient Egyptian tombs. The fruit symbolises many things and is mentioned in the Song of Songs, the Odyssey and many ancient folk tales. It seems that the "knob" of biblical and mythological fame was not an apple, but a pomegranate.
